Ahh, finally, the end of the weeks long preview. For this final installment, I’m gonna do things a little differently, going from worst to first.
5. Washington Nationals - I am not quite sure who’s most to blame for this debacle - Major League Baseball for its failure to sell the team to a new [...]

Oh yeah!

So who’s got the greatest fiance on the planet? I think it’s the guy whose fiance gave him this present for his bithday:

Awesome.

It keeps telling me that there is no battery power left though it has just been charged. My Ipod seems to like to tell me that I have no battery power left no matter how much juice I know it possesses..
My Ipod is really starting to piss me off.
Update: As usual it got going [...]

1. St. Louis Cardinals - I’m picking them first because the division is not particularly strong, but I think they’re going to take a step back from where they have been the past two seasons. A healthy Scott Rolen will undoubtedly give the lineup a boost, and Albert Pujols is absolutely the best offensive [...]

Fire Joe Morgan might actually be my favorite sports blog. What they do better than anyone is point out the glaring stupidity of most sports commentators and their particular obsessions. They’re quite adept at highlighting the complete bankruptcy of thought that stresses the greatness of “smallball.” They do so again here and [...]

Only 365 days left in my twenties. Wow.

Do I really have to? This is more painful than doing projections for catchers. Thank God for the unbalanced schedule, otherwise there would be a real chance for a sub -.500 division champion. As it is, it still might happen. Let’s get on with it.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers - Quoting Homer [...]

Perfectionism

I’ve been attending the Theology of the Body study group at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, and it’s been a very enlightening experience thus far.  Eve Tushnet has blogged about it (where are notes for the past week?  Come on, you don’t expect me to take notes, do you?)  We’ve read just a few chapters from John Paul the Great’s [...]

Archangel

March 28, 2006 | 3 Comments

Courtesy of Geek Soap Box here’s another meaningless quiz.
Take the quiz: Who would you be in the War of Armageddon? The ArchangelYou’re the Archangel! You’d best fit the role of the Archangel during the Battle of Armageddon, the leader of heaven’s army on earth. This says many things about you. You’re the leader of all the [...]

1. Oakland Athletics - I’m a bit baffled with the Barry Zito situation. He will not re-sign after the year is up, but the A’s will be in playoff contention all year, so they really can’t trade him. That’s the one problem with the success of the franchise - they are unable to [...]

What do ancient Rome and modern-day Los Angeles have in common? For the answer, one must turn toward historical literature.
In his book Europe and the Middle Ages (Prentice Hall, 1989), Edward Peters addresses a subject that can be found in just about any Medieval textbook: the Visigothic invasions of the Roman Empire in the late [...]

Yeah, so, Bauer ain’t dead, of course. However, what if the explosion knocked him out and now he’s in a coma. They can do this thing where he’s in purgatory - maybe they give him a new identity in purgatory and . . .
Oh, wait.

1. Cleveland Indians - this might be the trendy pick of the year, but this should be the year the Indians make the great leap forward. They feature an explosive young lineup featuring several budding superstars that have not even yet reached their full potential. Travis Haffner has already attained some level of [...]

Well . . .

“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks, and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will [...]

These two comments:
“The Prophet Muhammad has said several times that those who convert from Islam should be killed if they refuse to come back.”
“Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance, kindness and integrity. That is why we have told him if he regrets what he did, then we will forgive him.”
Two very different comments about [...]

Now is the time to look at the real baseball season. We’ll go division-by-division, which will conveniently bring us to the start of the regular season. We’ll start with the American League East.
1. Boston Red Sox - You know, on paper this lineup actually looks better than it did a year ago. Coco [...]

I was all set to retire for the evening, but this item on Geek Soap Box caught my attention.
Invoking Biblical themes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.
Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate and relative latecomer to the immigration debate, made her remarks [...]

Romney for President?

March 23, 2006 | 1 Comment

Jimmy Akin says probably not.
I’m inclined to agree. The tragic element to all this is that Romney is in almost every respects the ideal candidate. He’s a socially conservative governor of a northeastern state, who also happens to be a rather good speaker.
But that Mormon thing. What is it about [...]
