My parish – St. Matthew’s Cathedral – has a book club, and I’ve been a regular attendee for over a year now.  The leader of the club quit, and after a couple of months of thinking it over I finally decided to volunteer my services.  After all, it’s not like I’d be making that much more of a time commitment.

Well, as the leader, or organizer of the book club that means I am also a part of the Adult Formation Committee.  Okay, that’s one extra meeting a month for me.  As the meeting last night wound down, it was mentioned that the Committee needed a new Secretary – you know, take minutes and, well,  that’s about it.  Naturally I just had to speak up.  "I was the recording secretary for my fraternity," I heard myself say.

And so it begins.  Oh, it’s just me being the committee secretary, and secretaries never get that much more involved in their organization, right?  Heh.  No, there’s no way I’ll get suckered into even further levels of participation, or will I find myself volunteering for who knows what.  No, not me.  Never.
