Too normal

January 31, 2008 |

This article on Thompson, the modern campaign, and what it takes to win the presidency is incredibly depressing, especially for us Fredheads.  It’s frustrating to realize that being non-obsessed with becoming president is now a character flaw.

While I might agree that it might sound depressing on first blush, the article and Fred on this are dead wrong. (Disclaimer- I didn’t have a candidate at the time Fred started exploring the idea of running, so I jumped on board)

Fred not only didn’t have “fire in the belly” he did not have anything! Before he announced he was a fighter, someone who didn’t care about the establishment (even though he claimed to represent the old establishment), and as an example I alway use his video, which I have posted at http://bear.politicalbear.com, in which he attacks Michael Moore. That is fire in the belly! He doesn’t follow PC, talking point, media rules, and boring advisors in that video. He reacted (of course it was scripted, but it was still good). Then he announced……oh man. He didn’t even look at the camera, or Jay.

I believe that the least we can ask of a Presidential candidate is eye contact. If that is “fire in the belly” then yes, it is a requirement.

Sorry for ranting, but I was excited for Fred. I thought he would be the true “Staight Talker” and tell Obama and Hillary what they can do with their regressive and socialist ideas.

I wouldn’t say that Fred didn’t have anything. What Ferguson is getting at is that Fred wasn’t into the non-stop, butt-kissing aspect of the campaign, and he’s absolutely right. But I do agree with you that we should have seen more of he Fred that we saw in that video rebuttal to Michael Moore.
