Fisking Obama

May 20, 2008 |

I can’t really do much better than Jeff Miller in fisking this load of crap from Obama.  Obama was speaking before whores for death Planned Parenthood, and it was a perfect storm of triteness and glorification in the culture of death, with a little bit of falsehood thrown in for good measure (see the Kennedy quote).  In other words, it was typical Obama.

But don’t you dare call him pro-abortion.  Oh no.  He’s merely pro-choice.

By the way, I’d just like to highlight this particular passage, bolding the money quote.

There will always be people, many of goodwill, who do not share my view on the issue of choice. On this fundamental issue, I will not yield and Planned Parenthood will not yield. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t find common ground. Because we know that what’s at stake is more than whether or not a woman can choose an abortion.

Can someone please notify Doug Kmiec?  No doubt Kmiec will be be awed by the completely banal “common ground” sentiment, much as a child is attracted to really shiny objects.  But I’d like to see if Kmiec can explain these completely contradictory statements.  Because if you vow to “not yield” on a given subject, it’s more than a bit hollow to speak of finding common ground.

It’s not wholly contradictory to find “common ground” with opponents on an issue on which you “will not yield.”

The “common ground” is found wherever you invite your opponent to stand with you on your own territory.

Obama’s “common ground” is that he’ll pretend to understand that some people may feel that abortion is “deeply troubling”. But he’ll never yield on actually doing anything to deter to prevent abortions.

Fair enough. But in the context of the defenses of Obama put forward by the likes of Kmiec, where does that leave us in the pro-life movement? And of course, you answer that in the next paragraph.

    Exactly.
