Truly a horrific story:
The McCain volunteer Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, was robbed at an ATM then had the letter “B” carved on her face by her Obama-supporting robber.
McCain has called the Ashley’s family– The attacker said the mugger was screaming about McCain when he beat her.

I’m not saying this is Tawana Brawley redux – in fact I sure hope it isn’t – but there are a few elements of the story that give me pause. Suddenly the guy saw her bumper sticker and then attacked? It’s possible, and I guess if the ATM was in an area where the car could only plausibly belong to her, then that makes more sense.
Update II: Duh.
For a third — if she were on her back, her head held by the attacker’s left arm below her chin, her head between his legs as he scratched — she’d be upside down as oriented to him.
And therefore the B is not in fact backwards.
Update III: Michelle Malkin is skeptical.
Me: Eh. This certainly feels fishy.

Looks like the Pittsburgh police are on it and the truth will soon be out.
Pretty disgusting behavior from someone who is apparently an attention hog. The campaign doesn’t need this.
Looking more and more like an obvious hoax. I love the headlines that call her “maimed”; that B is not something an angry attacker with a knife “carved” while holding a victim down. The police know she’s a fraud, and they’ll crack her.

Boohoo! Fox ‘N’ Friendz OPENED with this BS story today. Can you imagine the scores of times they have run with this if it hadn’t been so speedily debunked? Whatta shame. Now they’ve got to go back to recycling Joe th’ Plumber & BillAyers & ACORN ad nauseum.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter “B” in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
Ashley Todd, 20, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”
This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.
The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be.
According to police, investigators working on the interview process detected several inconsistencies in Todd’s story that differed from statements made in the original police report.
Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard released a statement earlier today, saying: “Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do.”
No photos of Todd are being released by Pittsburgh Police at this time.
The investigation is continuing as officials determine what charges will be filed.

What’s scary is how gullible you right-wing members of the new media can be. I’ve been in the newspaper business for 25 years and pegged her as a white Tawana Brawley from the start. But you righties couldn’t skip a chance to make the Left look bad, could you?
It’s called SKEPTICISM, people. Develop a healthy dose of it if you’re going to play this game, and your faces won’t be so beet-red as they are today.
What’s amazing is that you are all ignoring the fact that the very people cited in the updates that expressed skepticism were right-wing journalists – namely Michelle Malkin and Jonah Goldberg, and they were not the only ones on the right who doubted her story.
Tell me, oh enlightened journalists of the world: were you this quick to dismiss Crystam Mangum’s story?

That is rich coming from a member of the same press that has virtually no skepticism regarding anything that comes from the lips of Obama.
As for the plausibility of McCain winning PA… We shall see.
DeWeese and Murtha haven’t exactly helped your cause. Add to it the crooked way the gambling bill passed, a complete failure to enact ANY reforms presented in 2005, and a body of Assemblymen with the overall character of the mob and it just might be that the Dems in PA have slit their own throat… Defeat from the jaws of victory and all that.
Besides, a Dem sweep in the nationals this year will force the Pelosi/Reid Legislature to do something other than cry and scheme. I don’t, for a single moment, think the Dems are capable of anything else so I expect your “victory” to be short-lived indeed.
