Et tu, Cornyn?

Congrats Senator Cornyn, you’ve been shown up by paragons of conservatism like Susan Collins and Arlen Specter.  When you can’t even muster up the courage to vote against a tax cheat to be in charge of the frakkin’ IRS, what kind of opposition can we count on you to muster up in  the future?  For the record, Democrat Senators Byrd, Feingold, Harkin, and Sanders (I who votes D) also demonstrated superior judgment.  Heck, even McCain voted against Geithner.

    Terrific.

First Cornyn OKs HRC as Secretary of State, saying she’s qualified, yet Cornyn is concerned about conflicts of interest: “But we should not let our respect for Sen. Clinton or our admiration for the many good works of the Clinton Foundation blind us to the danger of perceived conflicts of interest caused by the [foundation's] solicitation of hundreds of millions of dollars from foreign and some domestic sources,” he [Cornyn]said. “The perception and reality must be that the office of secretary of state is viewed around the world as beyond reproach.”

I would urge any and all to read the fundraising letter from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (Sen. Cornyn is Chair). Take the time to tell the NRSC why they’re not getting contributions. And cut the lovely NRSC membership card in two, then include it in the letter. Hit them where it counts–in the pocketbook.

It’s time the GOP fears the electorate, not Barack The Anointed.

What the heck is Cornyn doing these days? I more often than not agree with Cornyn’s positions, and I have spoken to others on many occasions how lackluster Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) is compared to him, but she showed him up by casting the right vote on Geithner while he did not. This is very disappointing.

BTW: your profanity filter just flagged the word “T-e-x-a-s” in my comment, so I removed it. Is the Lone Star State really that offensive?

Joel is spot on. Not one dime. I’ve told their solicitors repeatedly that they will get get not one dime from me as long as they misuse the money working to re-elect unprincipled senators (Chaffee) solely because they put an (R) after their name and pretend to be republicans only during the primary season.

Separately, this was an odd vote in several ways. I understand Dems having no ethical standards. However, the ten Republicans who voted to confirm is hard to figure. Unlike the Holder or Clinton nominations, one could vote against a tax cheat without concern for being accused of voting purely out of politics. Cornyn and Voinovich both denounced Geithner over the past week and then voted YES. Early in the day on Monday Specter said he would vote YES and then he voted NO. Arlen is obviously expecting a primary challenge again (Toomey ?) and didn’t want to be haunted by this vote. Brown of Ohio didn’t bother showing up to vote. Was that because he has a sordid tax payment history himself? This vote had potential to be a key hammering point (understandable by voters) in 2010 but Cornyn and others took it off the table. Foolish.

It can’t be all that bad, it’s where my wife is from. Honestly, that’s a bizarre little bug that we haven’t quite been able to figure out.

I’m very disappointed in Cornyn, and that’s why I singled him out from the nine other GOP Senators who voted for confirmation.

The other day I called Mr. Cornyn’s office (along with others) to request he NOT vote for Geithner…please notice my lack of respect for these persons by how I address them…
Shortly after I received a call from someone supposidly from his organization asking me to make a contribution to help him win the next election. I asked this person how Cornyn was voting on Geithner and after I explained to him who Geithner is, he ASSURED me Cornyn would vote againt Geithner.

Sure glad I didn’t give this joker any money … nor will he ever get my vote.

We need a whole new breed of polititians in the Lone Star State.

Although I have probably agreed with Cornyn more than not, I knew we were in trouble when the McCain-Kennedy bill was negotiated in secret for…??months?…without hearing a warning from Cornyn that we were without representation. These negotiations in the dark are what are killing our republic. This confirmation vote proves his lean toward the “maverick” side.
We must re-form our government so that all the money they spend is reported on someone’s Income Reporting Service (IRS) filing via an IRS Form 1099. Until we can see the report of where the money has gone we are all blind and led by the pandering. It’s too simple to implement! (won’t happen…)
