If I didn’t know any better, I would suggest that Howard Dean has managed to infiltrate the Republican Party, and he has planted chips into the heads of the party leadership.  That’s the only possible way to explain how brain dead the party is in pulling crap like this:

A member of the Republican National Committee told me Tuesday that when the RNC meets in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the “Democrat Socialist Party.”

When I asked if such a resolution would force RNC Chairman Michael Steele to use that label when talking about Democrats in all his speeches and press releases, the RNC member replied: “Who cares?”…

Steele wrote a memo last month opposing the resolution. Steele said that while he believes Democrats “are indeed marching America toward European-style socialism,” he also said in a (rare) flash of insight that officially referring to them as the Democrat Socialist Party “will accomplish little than to give the media and our opponents the opportunity to mischaracterize Republicans.”

Glad to see the national party operating at such a high level of maturity.

Listen, it’s one thing for bloggers like me to pop off about the socialistic tendencies of the modern Democratic party, especially as it is led by the likes of Pelosi and President Obama.  But for the RNC, even in a joking manner, to pull a stunt like this is to leave yet another bad taste in voters’ mouths.

Perhaps more maddening are the commenters at HA actually cheering this on.  No one would ever accuse me of being soft-spoken, and I have repeatedly suggested that our discourse should be tough.  But you have to know when and where to pick your battles, and this is just simply dopey.

I never thought that I would say this, but the Libertarian Party is starting to sound more and more plausible as a contender the more the Republicans keep going down the same path to self destruction.

Maybe next they will try to change their own name to Republido(s) just to sound more action oriented.

Considering the fact that the MSM is just a propoganda arm of the Socialists. Re-branding them is a way to get “differences” of democratic / socialist out on the table. Nationalising Healthcare isnt a display of Socialist tendancy but an outright socialist creation. I doubt the average american could discern a socialist from a democrat without being told, and they need the education. They need to know why something is socialist, and what the historical impact has been on nations that enact socialist programs. Again being the MSM is what the MSM is… the republican re-brandng of the Dems wouldnt get any play…. because they really dont want to educate the public, they want to be part of the “control” factor so they can fweel powerful.

    “they need the education”

So as soon as Americans stop enabling the GOP they’re stupid and need education eh? I think it’s the GOP that needs to hit the books but I doubt the lesson will take. As Ben Franklin said, “Experience keeps a dear school but a fool will learn in no other.”
