When I was 13 I started reading Moby Dick, and stopped reading after about 100 pages.  19 years later I finally finished what I started. Despite the snarky post title, it was in parts a tremendous novel, and worthy of the appelation “classic.”  Melville’s dialogue is second-to-none, and the theological themes are beautifully touched upon. I really hope that if I were ever 1/10 as abominable as the mother the Cranky Prof encountered in Church the other day, somebody would slap me.  It is unconscionable to do this a child, doubly so at Mass of all places.
