Donald Douglas has a post detailing the whacked-out opinions of James von Brunn, the man who opened fire at the Holocaust museum yesterday.  It’s a rebuttal to the silly leftists who have of course attempted to politicize this event and make him out to be some sort of right-wing nutjob.  He’s not a right-wing nutjob.  He’s a just a nutjob, as Dan Collins’s helpful enumeration of his major viewpoints helps make clear.

* He hates Bush.
* He hates the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
* Hates Jews and blacks.
* Holocaust denier.
* Hates Christians, especially Catholics.
* Doesn’t think Hitler went far enough.
* He is a 9-11 Troother.
* Anti-Illuminati.
* Eugenicist.
* Perhaps most importantly, ex-military.
* Alternately, perhaps most importantly, is a Nirther.

On the whole, he’s rather like Ahmadinejad, in short, except that he’s a White Supremacist rather than an Islamist.

Reading over some of his lunatic writings doesn’t exactly call to mind Edmund Burke.

When someone is this deranged it serves little purpose to haggle over political identification.  As always it is important to keep in mind that Nazism was an ideology of the left, as Jonah Goldberg helped explain last year.  But this guy is all over the place.  And frankly the family of Stephen Tyrone Johns is probably not too concerned about von Brunn’s place on the ideological spectrum.

    [...] Cranky Con puts it into perspective, by noting that the slain guard’s family probably doesn’t really care how we attempt to categorize him. Kinda hard to square your assertion that this guy was all over the place–perhaps being a conspiracy nut, most of all– (which I agree with, btw) with Donald’s approving quotes of that FrontPage Mag writer suggesting “Von Brunn had leftist ties as a Christian-hating socialist” and pooh-poohing his ties to Free Republic and his birther posts there as though they do not exist.

    While I agree that the guard’s family may not care who von Brunn was, it’s plain to see that forces left and right very obviously do want to sell their own particular mix of snake oil, and protect themselves from everyone else’s.
