Our president is a radical ideologue bent on completely destroying the fabric of our country.  But he is also a complete jerk who has no qualms about shooting his mouth off without knowing all the facts.  As you all probably know by now, President Obama declared last night in his propaganda hour press conference  – oh you didn’t know about the press conference?  Your ass shoulda called somebody – that Cambridge police had “acted stupidly” when they arrested Henry Louis Gates in his own home even after realizing that he was indeed the occupant of the house.  Obama had just admitted that he didn’t know all the facts, but that didn’t stop the blowhard in chief from casting judgment nonetheless.

What’s even worse is the White House is retreating – kind of – in a fashion that is insulting to our intelligence.

The White House says President Barack Obama was not calling a Cambridge, Mass., police officer stupid when he criticized last week’s arrest of black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. …

On Wednesday Obama said the police “acted stupidly” when they arrested Gates even after it was clear that he was not a burglary suspect. Gibbs said that Obama did not regret the remark, but wanted to clarify that he was not calling the arresting officer stupid.

Oh give me a fucking break.  This sort of parsing is of course perfect for an administration out of George Orwell’s worst nightmare, but is not exactly convincing to those of us with any functioning brain cells.

The man who has the honor of serving the people of this country as the President of the United States has a responsibility to act cautiously and fairly in these situations.  In rendering judgment without being aware of all the facts, and by publicly chastising the officers in question, Obama has called into question his own capacity to be a dispassionate Chief Executive.

After six months in office I am already sick and tired of him.  I have tried my best to avoid the trap of falling into Barack Derangement Syndrome, and I’ve actually held my fire quite a bit, all things considered.  But after another embarassing press conference where the President lied, exaggereted, and then offered up this insulting quip about the Cambridge police officers, I’ve simply had enough.  The guy is simply a dishonest shill who pretends to seek dialogue, all the while effectively telling the other side to shove it because, hey, he won.  His vision of dialogue is him starting off the conversation, followed by one of his sycophants drooling over themselves while they kiss his ass and declare him brilliant.  Those of us less mesmerized are cast off as naysayers standing in the way of progress.  He consistently presents false dilemmas wherein the only possible options to addressing the Nation’s woes are either spending obscene amounts of money or doing nothing.

The fact that this man is the leader of our country should embarrass anyone who has an appreciation for American history.

Dude. You dropped the F-bomb. You be pissed!

I disagree with one thing in your post (besides the profanity) – I think Obama knew the facts of the case as well as anyone, even if he claimed not to.

Really, I am surprised he took this question, because his two options were to either say the cops were racist or to throw his friend under the bus. Reading the police report, Gates was obviously in the wrong. If he had simply and calmly presented the police with his ID and thanked them for doing their jobs, he would not have been arrested and this would not have been news.

Not wanting to play the race card, but also not wanting to tick off his black constituency, Obama attempted a middle-of-the-road answer that still wound up being insulting to the police.

I will agree that the word games this administration uses (for example, “save or create 3 million jobs”) are absolutely Orwellian. Amazing people don’t see through this stuff.

This is a big disgrace for Obama. He really blew it, and I will never vote for him. I think he’s even making it worse by saying that his comments were taken out of context and that we had better things to discuss like the recession. I knew that he wasn’t ready to be our president, and this confirms it. THE END. He’s not even ready to apology to the Cambridge police and public. He’s not ready to lead. He’s a phony with a big mouth. Worse, he’s dangerous and hurts people.

My family is from Cambridge. I grew up in Cambridge. I work in Cambridge. I’ve never heard of the cops being racist. I am not afraid of “racist” cops in Cambridge. For Obama to accuse that the CPD “acted stupidly” WHILE acknowledging that he did not have all the facts further confirms his own stupidity. What a joke!

As it turns out (no surprise!), the cop actually trained other cops in racial profiling and administered mouth-to-mouth CPR to a dying Reggie Lewis (former black Celtic star who would have brought us more banners: sorry for the sidetrack). This was not a rookie cop without an education in racial profiling (as Gates alleged) or one whose words did not mirror his actions.

I am embarrassed that Cambridge is getting such bad publicity as a racist town. If you live here you know that it is, in fact, the People’s Republic of Cambridge (one of the most liberal towns in America, on par with Berkeley). This is embarrassing to our police officers, our city, Harvard, and our President.

    Mick,

He had more than two choices. Saying the cop was stupid or throwing his friend under his crowded bus were not his only options. He could have done what Bill Cosby later suggested and just shut up. This clown needs to be told that he isn’t a two-bit race hustling Illinois state senator anymore. He now speaks for America and needs to be judicious with his mouth especially if the teleprompter isn’t cued up.

I wonder how many of those in Massachusetts who are upset with Obama screwed up and voted for him? Also wonder if any have learned their lesson yet?

Bent on destroying the fabric of our country? Really? That seems a bit hyperbolic.

    That seems a bit hyperbolic.

I wish I was being hyperbolic.

I think that you avoid Derangement Syndrome by repeating the first sentence of this article as often as you can, and trying not to say the second sentence. You need to let people figure out that second sentence on their own.

You might call the President ’stupid’, but I think a more precise description would be lacking in judgment or sagacity. A 46 year old man with the President’s specific employment history and possessed with a modicum of prudence would have realized in 2007 that he was unprepared for the elective office he now holds and would have run for a suitable office like Attorney-General of Illinois. He is now stuck with the job he has (in most inclement circumstances) and we are stuck with him. We just have to hope his luck holds out – and ours.

Frankly, there would be no issue had Henry (I’m a legend in my own mind) Gates not escalated the incident into a racist diatribe against a cop just trying to do his job. I suggest that Professor Gates be required to take a racial sensitivity course and some anger management classes in order to assist him in dealing with people other than those in his classroom and staff lounge at Harvard. He apparently lacks even the most basic social skills.

As an aside, I inadvertently tripped a silent alarm in a business I owned years ago. First thing I knew was a cop with a drawn gun telling me to come out immediately. Having then realized what I had done, I went to the door and said “Oh sorry, I tripped the alarm by mistake. My fault.” He first demanded to know if anyone else was in the building. I said “No, I’m alone”. He made me come outside and stand off to the side and he and his partner with drawn guns searched the premises to make sure no-one was inside and threatening me. They then gave me a lecture about turning the alarm off and told me they always have you step outside and ask if others are the building in case someone has a gun on you or is otherwise threatening you. They then clear the building just in case.

It seems to me that this is what the Cambridge officer was trying to accomplish, and for good reason. Gates is the problem here. He’s just a nasty piece of work with a bad attitude and took it out on a public servant. There’s a very rude name for people like that, and he deserves it. I have no doubt that had I refused to come out and yelled epithets at the cops, they would have grabbed me, and rightly so.

President Obama should in no way be involved in this. It is a confirmation of his own racist instincts that he couldn’t resist the off the cuff comment, and now he thinks if he gets this poor officer into the White House, he and Gates can come out on top of this issue. I sincerely hope the officer holds his ground.
