A couple of years ago heading into the 2007 season I thought the Giants were in store for a wreck of a season. They looked like they had some useful offensive tools but a sparse defense. Their play over the first two weeks of the season did nothing to dispel my concerns. But then they suddenly found their way, and though they stumbled a few times at home late in the season, went on a magical run all the way to a Super Bowl victory.
Now it’s the Jets repeating that formula, though with a few adaptations of their own. With a rookie quarterback at the helm, I had them pegged as a 4-12 team. Well, Mark Sanchez did indeed play like a rookie in stretches, but I didn’t account for the sheer awesomeness that is their defense and offensive line.
And so now the Jets, a team that nobody picked to beat the Chargers, are on the cusp of a Super Bowl.
