That’s some really bad timing
March 21, 2010 | Comments Off
There was a massive rally today in Washington DC on the Mall to fight for “immigration reform.” There were more people on the Mall than I think I’ve ever seen in my life. The only reason I know there was such a rally was because we went into the city to meet the Darwins. Had we not traveled into the city (and had the pleasure of being packed in like sardines) on the Metro, I might not have have even heard about this.
This really had to have been the worst-timed rally in American history. It wasn’t the organizers’ fault – who could have predicted that the health care legislation would have been voted upon today? But what would have been headline news or at least fairly prominent news has pretty much been ignored by all news reports today.
I did hope at one point that the rally could have had the unintended consequence of swaying a few Blue Dogs. After all, what better reminder that things weren’t about to get easier for them than hundreds of thousands of people yelling for immigration reform. Alas, no such luck.
